The pieces of bark I'm using for this example are both Plains and Black Cottonwood bark. The size of the piece of bark is approximately 13" long, 3" wide, and 2.5" thick. These two sets of bark will result in houses about 7" long, 3" wide, and 5" thick. These houses are not used throughout the manual.

For faces, I like a piece that is at least 3 inches thick and a minimum of 3 inches wide. You need to have larger pieces because you will lose part of the depth during the cleanup process.
